Dr Ingrid Danylyk BSc BVMS
Ingrid is our resident veterinarian with a special interest in avian medicine and surgery. Prior to graduating from Murdoch University, Ingrid worked as an avian/exotics technician for 5 years, an anaesthesia technician for 3 years and an emergency/critical care technician for 7 years. During Ingrid's time as an avian/exotic technician, she worked alongside veterinary specialists in a university setting. This included experience with wild bird medicine and surgery/rehab in a variety of bird species including raptors, owls, waterfowl, songbirds and parrots.
Ingrid is currently researching hypothyroidism in psittacines. Her research has been presented and published in 2009/2010 conference proceedings for the Association of Avian Veterinarian's Australasian Committee. She is a member of this committee and also the Association of Avian Veterinarians of North America. She is board certified as an Emergency and Critical Care Technician through the American Academy of Emergency and Critical Care Veterinary Technicians.
Ingrid's role at Balcatta Veterinary Hospital is not only as an emergency consulting vet, but she is also responsible for the avian medicine practice. Ingrid can offer consultations on all species of birds, including nutritional consultations. Balcata Veterinary Hospital can provide hospitalisation and 24-hour monitoring in a specific avian ward, and Ingrid is able to offer diagnostics and surgery as required. Ingrid will also soon be able to offer surgical sexing through the use of endoscopy. Ingrid is happy to answer any questions clients or other veterinary clinics may have that are related to avian medicine and surgery. Ingrid works at Balcatta Veterinary Hospital full-time, and our reception team will be happy to advise you on the days and times Ingrid is available.
